Covet the cape – Oops! Fashion

oops capesEmily Bosence’s creation – Oops! Fashion is a ray of sunshine on a winter’s day in Brighton. In fact, Oops brings a little slice of sun any day of the year! Taught the art of fashion from a young age and once tie-dying her entire wardrobe aged 10, Bosence has always been a brave, experimental and daring designer. Her designs take inspiration from vintage streetwear, old hiphop videos, 80s films, comic books and so much more. This eclectic thought process can be seen in all of her garments, and it works. Her reversible capes in particular have caught my eye. They are cute and chic with a flash of colour and crazy underneath. In cowl-necked and hooded styles, there is bound to be a combination of quirky materials that you will fall in love with.

oops 2 capesThese gorgeous creations are all handmade, making them that bit extra special. With multiple stockists and a studio on Bond Street in the North Laines, one of these cute capes could be yours. They range from £60, and for such a unique and versatile garment, I think this is super. Even better, Bosence takes commissions and can design a cape with your own choice of material (providing it is Oops acceptable!) or you can pick from her fantastic range of materials. Speaking of which, Bosence is constantly on ‘operation fabric’, in search of the most unusual and eye-catching materials to make her capes from. Sourcing from jumble sales, markets and charity shops, the capes will transform you into a ‘second-hand rose’, and are wonderful in terms of reducing waste.

Not only have these capes caught my eye, but also the band ‘Gaggle’ who wear Bosence’s capes in their photoshoots and videos, and have even sported them on the pages of NME. 20 gorgeous girls wearing Oops capes provides the most wonderful showcase of Bosence’s designs, who described this as ‘fantastic and overwhelming…I was pretty much bouncing off the walls’. And you can really see why. On Gaggle the capes are strong, dramatic and pack a punch, whilst providing an almost ethereal feel. Oops! Fashion is always up for collaborations, and has not only been involved with Gaggle, but several others, including bands The Magistrates, Jahcoozi, photographers Alis Pelleshci, Natalie Farouz and many more. Bosence can manipulate her designs to the look of the season and most importantly the client.

With Oops capes, you can transform your look, and really make the garment your own. Whether you choose a winter look with quilted puffa jacket material or choose a lightweight linen number, the choices are endless, and exciting. Bosence offers bold African prints, monochrome fabric, Barbie prints, tweed, denim, you name it. And Bosence’s passion for new looks means she is always coming up with great new fabrics. And if there are any men reading this, and itching for some Oops action – Bosence also has made the ‘man-cape’. Forget superman, this is a cool and edgy look – great for the fashion orientated fella.

The capes are voluminous yet still retain a beautiful shape which will flatter any figure. They can be worn dressed up or down, and are a great addition to any girl’s (or guy’s) wardrobe. As they are one size fits all, you can rest assured that any of the Oops capes will look great on you. Bosence describes her designs as ‘loud, dramatic and quirky’ – and they certainly are.
