Vicky Stevenson – Quirky & Creative!

I recently wrote an article about Cassia Beck and was totally inspired by her vintage inspired photography.

Somehow or other I stumbled across an equally talented photographer whose work has blown me away.

Vicky Stevenson is not just a photographer but also anillustrator who dabbles in whatever takes her fancy! She has a real quirky edge which I love and the Polaroid prints in her Etsy shop has left me wondering about the giant empty wall in my lounge (and my bank balance).

The fantastic Polaroid’s feature sugar mice on sticks, vintage fabrics, cupcakes, old fashioned cameras and typewriters. Right up my street! I want to jump into the photos…

Vicky also makes collages and creates postcards which she sells via Etsy. The following description just about sums up this kooky girl! ‘One glossy postcard featuring a reproduction of an original collage on a used envelope featuring a sewn strawberry cupcake in a teacup!’ – Random!

She also sells sheets of stickers – miniature versions of her prints – which are very cool. It would be dangerous if I got my hands on them.

Then there are her paintings, her badges – is there is no end to this girl’s talent? Or her imagination for that matter. You must check it out for yourself. You can access her Etsy shop via her website www.vickeh.com

Vicky’s blog has also got me transfixed http://vickeh.com/journal/ it explains about her involvement in Brighton’s Zine Festival. I’m not sure whether I’m behind the times here but I’m yet to find out what a Zine actually is???? I need to do some investigative work.

She has written a great blog piece about Brighton at Night: ‘Last week I took a short walk along the seafront and down the pier, before returning home. The pier at night is like something out of Scooby-Doo when it’s off season. Most things are closed and there’s not many people about, half the rides have had their insides taken away or are in pieces. The cheesy 70’s music can still be heard all the way down.’

The accompanying photos depict some very emotive images – unused deckchairs stacked up, the dark eyes of cuddly puppies stuck in glass cages desperate but unlikely to be hooked by the giant silver arm. The ‘Kids play area’ desolate and dark looks absolutely eerie but I really feel what she’s doing here.
