Like art? Like people? Like Brighton? The Brighton Artist Residence is for you. They ‘don’t like to think of themselves as a boutique hotel’, but they do boast one-off rooms designed by young local artists such as Jeffrey Cervantes, featured last month on The Brighton Collective.
The Artist Residence was set up in 2008 by 20 year old Justin Salisbury. It’s run entirely by artists under the age of 25, which explains the chilled out, anti-pretentious vibe. Sightsee without leaving your bed in a room illustrated with the Brighton skyline. Enjoy a dirty weekend in a 50s erotica themed room designed by Hutch, Brighton’s most famous urban artist. The visual arts are an undeniable part of Brighton life so it makes sense to combine them with your stay.
Many of the artists exhibiting in the in-house gallery work in the hotel so you’re guaranteed the best tips for local events and exhibitions.
Volcanoes, a weak pound and global warming mean actually escaping the
country on a summer holiday is becoming an ever more distant dream, so why not book a stay and enjoy Brighton at its most creative? You can also visit the Artist Residence open hotel in the Brighton Fringe from 1 May between 10am – 8pm.
You’ll find the Artist Residence online or at Regency Square.
Breakfast is local, fair trade and free. No stag or hen nights allowed though (thank God).
